Observation: Totem poles in California....

I discovered this interesting, intricately sculpted totem pole in LA Zoo. On delving into its significance, got to know that these poles are linked to legends  and cultural beliefs. The themes depicted on the poles vary widely. I think the purpose of this particular totem pole is decorative and indicative of our association with animals, birds across civilizations.

Yesterday, I stumbled upon yet another interestingly carved totem pole (Polynesian tiki) adorning the garden of an Oceanfront house in Newport Beach. 

And then saw many of them, modernized though, in San Diego zoo.......
