These comparatively large ducks with plumage of white, grey and brown shades are often seen in Tewinkle Park...they are Egyptian goose.....
Perched on the lush lawn.........
Preening.......
Nap time.......
Quack call.........
Portrait...looks like the famous 'grumpy cat'......
Swimming merrily.........
What a pair of pink feet!
They do not much mingle with the mallard flocks, stay on their own. Unlike the mallards, they can not be lured with the feed either.

These geese are generally found in Nile Delta, Africa and certain regions of Europe. I wonder how and why (of course by migration) they came to this nondescript lake in South California? Further, what safe and food abundant haven it seemed to them, that the couple decided to stay back. By now, they have become regular residents of the park, perhaps they spend the night in the hollows of the trees. Anyway, it is nice to see this exotic pair.
Once I got to see their intimate courtship dance.....the calling ritual ...
Next year, a big flock descended on the lake, to my utter joy....
