Plant: Towering Agave flower spike.........

Agaves thrive in South California climate.........I have spotted a variety of them...
Century plant (Agave americana).............

A spectacular flower spike .........

The inflorescence soars  so high, that the mother plant in order to provide nutrition to it, suffers damage and perishes........

The dried spike......

Floral spike starts developing..

The tender spike...yet to open up..looks like a giant asparagus.....Soon, it will unfurl into beautiful clusters of flowers......bees were hover about.....orioles will feed on the bugs..hawks will perch and relax......

It has already started developing tender inflorescence...

Octopus agave......

Some other agave species growing in South California...........

Its late autumn....agaves planted along the Jeffrey trails in the neighborhood of our current town in Irvine have sent out the spectacular spikes...
