Plant: Rose hips, a possible functional food and nutraceutical........

There goes an expression " Waste is a resource that is misplaced or we are not intelligent enough to utilize". This statement applies true for the rose hips (fruits)
The rose flowers attract the fancy and admiration of all and sundry, but the underlying fruits are pruned to be dumped.

Recent times have seen some startling scientific evidences that these low-profile Rosa fruits can be as popular as their privileged cousins like apple, apricot, cherry, plums. The rose hips have been discovered to possess a plethora of vitamins, essential fatty acids and antioxidants. With adequate research, these can be developed into sustainable sources of  nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals....

I learned that this fruit can be used to prepare delicacies like jams, syrups, teas. The tangy tasting hip rich in ascorbic acid and antioxidants are functional food material. The essential fatty acid rich seed oil are excellent for skin and hair care.

The raw one...

As I saw  bountiful clusters of the hips on the autumnal rose bushes, got curious of its possible uses and using my biology knowledge, published  a review article on its food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications...

Ripe fruits belonging to same apple, plum and apricot family..yeah, Rosaceae..

Do not the orange pieces resemble to carrot cubes?..that's why its as good a repository of beta-carotene as the latter...

The hairy seeds..these are not edible, might cause allergy...but oils can be extracted which is considered valuable in cosmetic industry..

Now, will you just prune your rose bushes and dump away?...I think "NO"..and you should not...
