Sea fig or iceplant is a invasive noxious weed of South California. But this succulent covers the dusty, uncovered areas.......prevents soil erosion....
...and displays lovely pink and yellow flowers. Also, under these impenetrable thickets, ground squirrel takes refuge, digging burrows.
Spring is approaching in San Diego...the street sides, bluffs, creeks covered with sea fig creepers are getting ready to bloom....buds are unfurling....
revealing their shiny, delicate petals...
and looking stunning, as if they are land lotus flowers..:)
Also, they bloom muted yellow flowers..........
the autumnal fruits........some say, its edible...check before you try...
The thick leaves develop yellow, orange or reddish tints in autumn......
Growing on the bluffs of Torrey pines state park...
