People are waking up to environmental sustainability, patronizing community supported agriculture (CSA) and going locavore is catching up...at least that is what I read in internet....but firsthand experience narrates an altogether different story. The banana comes from Ecuador, the pineapple is imported from Costa Rica, ginger from China; mango, fish and the staple rice comes from India.
