Bird: Birds of California........

I am thrilled to see a variety of birds in California...overwhelmed to feast my eyes on a myriad species of feathered beauties and treat my ears to their mellifluous chatters, chirps, warbles. Phoebe, house finch, golden finch, cedar waxwing, tufted titmouse, bushtit, rock pigeon, mourning dove, song sparrow, towhee, mockingbird, coot, mallard, Egyptian goose, mandarin  duck, wood duck, wigeons, cardinal, starling, raven, grackle, blue jay, hermit thrush, warbler, night heron, great blue heron, snow egret, avocet, plover, whimbrel, sandpiper, royal tern, osprey,  hawk, varieties of gulls, cormorant, pelican, woodpeckers, and last and most importantly the stunning hummingbirds. I am quite sure that the repertoire is only going to swell...people here respect the wildlife and preserve their habitat, so they thrive unperturbed.........

Mockingbird......

Bushtits (Psaltriparus minimus) are small passerine birds, often seen on shrubs and trees in gardens and parks in South California. These birds are gregarious, feeding in groups on insects and creating constant calls that sound like "tsit". After the hummingbirds,. there are the next tiny but lovely birds I have laid my eyes on. With the large head, short neck, stubby beak and long tail, they are absolutely adorable.

Today, darkness has shrouded our apartment garden and I was hurrying to home, while a flutter noise arising from the carrotwood tree perked up my ears. As I looked up, it was a hermit thrush. The delightful sighting certainly made my evening.

Bluebirds...come spring and they belt out melodies....hopping from tree to tree...

Goldfinch....they appear year round...mostly on fruit trees...be that wild cherry, carrotwood or sweetgum......

Black phoebe....the omnipresent grant-catcher........

The little avian gem...humming bird....hovering among the flowers...fiercely guarding its territory....

The mourning doves...radiating peace....

Cormorant........
